1. The Problem with Cloud Scrapers

If you've ever run cold outreach campaigns for an agency or sales team, you know the frustration with existing tools:

  • Credit Metering: You buy 10,000 credits for $80. Half of them bounce or fail, and if you don't use them this month, they expire.
  • Rate Limits & Cloud Queues: You request a scrape and wait 3 hours in a shared server queue while the cloud service throttles you.
  • Bloated Electron Wrappers: Many desktop alternatives are just slow, packaged web browsers that chew through 800MB+ of RAM and crash after scraping 500 rows.

We realized that modern desktop computers have gigabytes of memory and multi-core processors. There is no reason why scraping public maps and business websites needs to happen on an expensive, metered third-party cloud.

2. The Technical Journey: What We Built (and What We Cut)

We spent five months building LeadForge as a local-first application. Along the way, we tested and discarded several approaches that didn't meet our standards:

Failed Experiment: Search Engine Result Scraping for Emails

We initially tested querying public search engines to find email addresses. In a 50-sample benchmark cohort, the yield was inconsistent and frequently triggered aggressive CAPTCHAs. We scrapped this approach completely. Instead, we built a direct-to-site website crawler that visits the actual company domain, extracting authentic emails from the source.

Architectural Win: Native Rust Core + Embedded SQLite

We chose native Rust for the desktop engine. It idles at ~50MB of RAM—a fraction of what typical Electron-based apps consume. Furthermore, by embedding SQLite with atomic schema migrations (42 migrations so far), LeadForge effortlessly stores over 2 million leads locally on a standard laptop without lagging or needing an internet connection.

3. Our Promise to You

LeadForge is designed for professionals who value ownership, speed, and privacy. You keep your data on your drive. You export as much as you want without being nickeled-and-dimed. And every update we ship will prioritize stability, anti-bot resilience, and performance above all else.
